Position Description


This part-time position responds to and performs basic legal research regarding arbitration and mediation cases. Summarizes pleadings, identifies issues, and locates legal authorities quickly and accurately. Drafts memoranda and templates.

Performs more focused, topical legal research at the request of and under the direction of arbitrators, internal legal counsel, and senior management. May also be assigned proofreading, data entry, or administrative tasks, as needed.

General Duties and Responsibilities
  • Quickly and thoroughly reviews case files and accurately summarizes the parties’ contentions.
  • Performs any needed legal research, selects the best cases, accurately synthesizes the holding, and provides a relevant citation.
  • If requested by an arbitrator, provides thorough, insightful memos that answers the questions posed. Anticipates follow-up questions.
  • Performs in-depth legal or market research and analysis for arbitrators, in-house legal counsel, or senior management; accurately proofreads, or cite-checks memoranda, articles, or other documents for the same.
  • Performs database research, data entry or administrative tasks, as assigned.
  • Regular and predictable attendance according to scheduled work hours is an essential function of this job.

Qualifications
  • Must be currently enrolled as a student in law school.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively interface with both internal staff and external customers.
  • Focused and dedicated to producing quality work. Demonstrates outstanding customer service skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. Must demonstrate detail in work product.
  • Demonstrates ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meeting sensitive deadlines.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability.
  • Demonstrates ability to understand, interpret and apply instructions, rules and procedures appropriately, as needed.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently within a team.
  • Must demonstrate a professional, positive attitude, promoting a good team environment.
  • Must be dependable and self-driven with the ability to take appropriate initiative, as required.
  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity and discretion when dealing with sensitive, confidential information.
  • Must be very comfortable with technology. Possesses strong computer skills; proficiency with MS Office/Outlook, Word, Excel and Internet Explorer.
